Predicting Light Regime Controls on Primary Productivity Across CONUS River Networks

نویسندگان

چکیده

Solar radiation is a fundamental driver of ecosystem productivity, but widespread estimates light available for primary producers in rivers are lacking. We developed model to predict river and used it estimate production across the contiguous United States (CONUS). Successively accounting riparian water column processes improved predictions as function light. calculated ratio width tree height this metric whether zones or most limit productivity over 2 million reaches. Water limited 50% nation's length 80% its surface area, with variations ecoregions related forest cover. Our findings facilitate large-scale stream well understanding controlling networks.

Impacts of urbanization on net primary productivity in the Pearl River Delta, China

Great changes in land use/land cover from rapid urbanization have occurred in the PearlRiver Delta, China. As the primary cause of land development in the urbanization process, urban expansion has mostly occurred on land with higher NPP, significantly impacting theregional ecosystems. The primary purpose of this study was to reveal the impacts of urbanexpansion on the regional NPP. The land cove...

The productivity of primary care research networks.

Primary care research networks are being publicly funded in the United Kingdom to promote a culture of research and development in primary care. This paper discusses the organisational form of these networks and how their productivity can be evaluated, drawing on evidence from management science. An evaluation of a research network has to take account of the complexity of the organisation, the ...

Investigation of climate change impacts on streamflow regime of a river Arazkooseh River Basin

In this research, impacts of climate change on the streamflow hydrological status of the Arazkooseh River are discussed. After Calibration and validation of the LARS-WG, HadCM3 was downscaled under A2 Scenario in three climatology station. Beside, calibration and validation of the SWAT model were done by observed data relative to past period of times. Streamflow values are then predicted using ...

Fertilization of an oligotrophic lake with a deep chlorophyll maximum: predicting the effect on primary productivity

We investigated how epilimnetic fertilization would affect chlorophyll levels and light penetration of oligotrophic sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) lakes and how the resulting self-shading would affect primary production of the prominent deep chlorophyll maxima (DCM) of the lakes. Epilimnetic nutrient additions to large mesocosms (330 m) in Redfish Lake, Idaho, increased levels of primary p...

Deriving a light use efficiency model from eddy covariance flux data for predicting daily gross primary production across biomes

The quantitative simulation of gross primary production (GPP) at various spatial and temporal scales has been a major challenge in quantifying the global carbon cycle. We developed a light use efficiency (LUE) daily GPP model from eddy covariance (EC) measurements. The model, called EC-LUE, is driven by only four variables: normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), photosynthetically activ...
